I think this a great point. However my experience in experimenting with more poetic approaches is that it violates the conventions and expectations of the “genre” of documentary or nonfiction. I try leaving more things unsaid, only to have to write it back in when my test audiences say they are confused! So: the audience needs to understand it is not documentary/journalism as they know it.
